It’s only 9 o’clock in the morning, and already we’ve woven so many simple, beautiful threads of nature into our day. Not through grand outings or picture-perfect setups—but through little moments. Moments that are easy to miss, but rich with connection.
I wanted to share them with you—not to impress or overwhelm—but to gently show how nature connection doesn’t have to be complicated to be meaningful. In fact, it’s often the small, repeated rhythms of the everyday that build a deep love for the outdoors in our children.
Here’s what our morning looked like…
🌞 We opened the curtains together, letting the morning light flood in. There was a pigeon on the roof next door, and we paused to wave hello. A tiny act, but one that reminds my child to respect and acknowledge all living things.
📚 We read Wild Woods in bed, snuggled under the covers. Nature books have a way of bringing the outside in and sparking curiosity—even before breakfast.
🍇 Our breakfast included blackberries we’d picked ourselves. As we sprinkled them on our yogurt and granola, we talked about the cycle of how they’d grown—from flower to fruit. A natural rhythm, and one that invites wonder.
🚪 Before heading out the door, we took a mindful moment to step outside and feel the temperature. Was it a shorts day? A simple pause, but one that encourages body awareness, mindfulness, and observation.
🐝 We lingered by the lavender, watching the bees at work, and peeked to see if any more tomatoes were ready to harvest. Just a few extra seconds—but the kind of seconds that ground us, calm us, and invite presence.
And that was all before nursery.
These moments didn’t take extra time. They didn’t require a special setup. But they mattered.
Because when we consistently make space for nature in our daily rhythm—whether it's looking up at the sky through the sunroof or greeting a garden visitor—we teach our children that the natural world is something to be noticed, respected, and cherished.
That’s the heart of what we do in the Hygge in the Early Years approach. It’s not about doing more. It’s about doing less—but with more intention. More presence. More noticing. More connection.
🌿 If you’re longing to bring more of this gentle, slow, nature-connected rhythm into your life or early years setting, I’d love to invite you to join the Hygge in the Early Years community.
