❓What does storage look like in your setting?
❓Do you work from your living room and pack away each night?
❓Or are you in a reception class where you’re looking at developing independence?
Here are some things to consider…
 
-Open shelving (IKEA Kallax is a great option and can often be found on market place sites) allows children to see what’s there and self select. Perhaps you could display books along with resources and little baskets or wooden bowls with objects of interest.
 
-Wooden crates are a very popular option too and can be used in such a versatile way. Try market place sites, amazon, etsy and asking friends who have just got married!
 
-Having more open ended materials allows for not only a variety of ages but encourages them to be creative and take the lead in their play. Meaning you actually need less resources as children create their own representations of experiences rather than having set pieces like a car garage that only has one purpose.

"When I first started my Hygge Journey I had recently started back to work after maternity leave with my second child, I was in an emotional place knowing my last ever baby had just been born and I wasn't in a position to be able to afford to take more than 14 weeks off with her , this had made me totally and utterly love all love, motivation and enjoyment for my job. I felt that my playroom was cold, uninviting, sparse and housed too much bright coloured plastic, whether that be in storage boxes or toys, it wasn't a space I wanted to be in, let alone somewhere I wanted a newborn baby to spend ten hours a day in, I was honestly ready to give in and change my career. This week on our Hygge blog we're joining my our members Sarah and Carly. The home based childcare team and recently completed the Hygge in the Early Years Accreditation. 

"My journey on the Hygge Accreditation has been life changing. Yes, I know it sounds corny but honestly it changed every except of my life.

This February I’ve been a childminder for 16 years and the changes and support childminders get has virtually disappeared. Training is now left to us to source as well as the cost. With no support from our local authority we collect a lot of information from support groups like early years teachers, childcare groups and other settings on social media. One night I stumbled upon the Hygge Accreditation and Kimberly and I was hooked.  I soon signed up and honestly, I have never in my life been so enthusiastic to do any kind of training and learning.
